Griffin Gala

Unicorn Ryan enters Gemstone Glade with a mission burning in his eyes: to once again connect with the magic tablet gifted to him in this Christmas story, followed by this Christmas story. Christmas is gone (at least until the next one) but magic exists beyond Christmas, indeed magic is required all year round to fight and right all the ills of the world.

Ryan gently nudges the tablet, where it lies half concealed by earth. Crystalline fairies join him, swiftly removing all the dirt.

As Ryan touches the tablet with his horn, it lights up. Words transfix him with their promise of secret worlds. Today, he will choose the word Griffin.

He rubs his horn over the word. A fiery red portal of light appears before him. Ryan’s heart skips with joy. Another adventure!

Ryan steps through the ring of light, confidence and caution competing in his heart.

A sun filled day greets him like a friendly horn rub. Crystalline hills are all around, extending to the horizon, seemingly unending in their dominion of the land. Between the hills, fiery orange grass glows brightly in the sun.

The crystalline hills are different colours: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, magenta, indigo. Ryan counts the red hills, then the orange ones, and so on, trying to work out which is the dominant colour. He doesn’t know why he does this. Perhaps he just needs to focus on something.

There is movement above. He notices what look like large bird nests on the top of each hill. A massive bird is flying towards him. It is an eagle? Or is it a fabled griffin, half eagle and half lion?

The mighty winged beast lands before him. It is a griffin. Ryan’s hear skips a beat as he beholds the kingly animal, its large eyes burning in to his like a pair of suns.

“A unicorn enters our land via a magic portal,” murmurs the griffin, its eyes on his. “A prophecy has awakened.”

“I am Ryan.” The words evaporate in the air before the power of the griffin’s stare. “I was gifted a magic tablet. I am here to find out about the mighty griffin.”

“And I am Titan, one of hundreds of griffins here. We are guardians of ancient knowledge. The secrets of a million years live in our hearts. Here, in this world, we are all responsible for a different dish of wisdom. The knowledge never dies. In our nests, which you see at the top of each hill, we sleep on top of griffin eggs. They can take a hundred years or more to hatch. They are born for two reasons: when we are nearing the end of our lives, they then take over and we impart all our knowledge to them. However, sometimes an egg hatches for a different reason. This is so that it will leave the nest, with the knowledge of its mother or father, and take that information in to the world. That can be one of many worlds; we look after the wisdom and knowledge of countless planets and dimensions. The baby griffin is born to rebirth that knowledge where it needs to go.”

Ryan’s eyes are misty with tears. The griffin magic has overcome him. What incredibly important beings, how tremendous their life purpose!

The griffin watches him. “Do you know why you are here Ryan?”

“I was given a magic tablet … “

“Yes, yes, I know. But why are you here now, in this very second, when you could have come tomorrow or the day after?”

“I chose to learn about the griffin today … “

“No, we chose you. We called to you through the channels of interdimensional communication. You are here for a reason. You are here to help us.”

“Me? How?”

“There is an egg starting to crack in my nest. And then you appear. The new griffin is arriving to take a secret to Planet Earth. You are here to bless it with unicorn wisdom. Come, fly with me to my nest.”

Ryan smoothly flies behind the giant griffin. The nest is full of bright yellow eggs: the same colour as its crystalline hill. Ryan cautiously lands next to the nest, and looks with eager anticipation at the small egg with multiple cracks in the middle. More cracks appear, the sound like the hope of spring in the air.

Then the egg breaks in two, and a tiny griffin emerges, its little black eyes blinking in the unaccustomed light.

“Welcome, little Tiddius,” croons Titan softly.

The little griffin’s wings are rose pink.

“The colour of his wings will change as he gets older,” explains Titan. “The colour he is born with, however, denotes his life purpose. This griffin will work with the magic of pink, the colour of heart energy. He has been born, not to take over from me, but to take the secret of pink heart energy love to Planet Earth. It is his time to awaken universal love on this planet, and to teach the healing powers of the pink ray. He is here to bring great peace to Planet Earth, for when its peoples are attuned to the pink ray of love, all wars will end, forever. But first, he will enjoy a few months as a child griffin and I will prepare him for his mission.”

“And why am I here?” asks Ryan.

“You are here to bless him with unicorn magic, so that added to the pink ray of love is the unicorn gift of gentleness. Lower your horn to his head now.”

Ryan does as instructed. He feels unicorn energy flood his horn with its waters of wisdom.

“Thank you,” intones Titan. “And good luck, Ryan. I can tell that you have many adventures ahead of you. And a prophecy to deliver. You are welcome to return here any time.”

The fiery portal of light appears again. Ryan steps through, the pink ray of love in his heart. Somehow, he knows that the birth of this tiny griffin has made the universe a better place. As he arrives in Gemstone Glade, the fountain waters turn pink. He has brought the pink ray magic with him. Ryan neighs softly, happiness sighing in his heart. For wherever the pink ray goes, it heals. And love will conquer all.
